What's my goal for The 100-Day Project?

This month has been crazy due to lots of overseas visitors. While it's been wonderful to catch up with people, I'm now pretty much ready to crawl under the doona and not talk to anyone for a while! Meanwhile, in the studio …

This is called Cinderella in a Party Dress, which is such an evocative line that I love so much from the song A Dustland Fairytale by The Killers!

It's an artwork featuring a captivating peony illuminated by moody lighting. It evokes elegance, grace – and a touch of whimsy. It's inspired by the idea of a protagonist, finally ready to step into the light.

I'm doing The 100-Day Project
If you're not familiar with with this project, you only need to search the hashtag #the100dayproject to see that this is a global movement of creatives who commit to creating something for 100 days. This can be any creative pursuit: painting, writing, photography, ceramics, whatever!

I did this three years ago and it actually resulted in me creating my first ever wallpaper collection, which was then licensed by Emily Ziz Style Studio.

Even though that was a great outcome, I actually wanted to go into this project without a clear outcome in mind this year. Why? Because I really want to be guided by my creative intuition. That is: I want to create whatever it is that I'm pulled to create. Not what I feel like I should create. It's the opposite of staying in your lane! And I encourage you to do the same :)

After many years of so-called branding experts evangelising that we all need to pick an area of expertise and become known exclusively for it, I'm going the other direction. I'm going to plunge headlong into wherever my curiosity takes me.

By Day 4 of the project, I started exploring a creative activity that's so far out from left field that I'm not even ready to reveal it to you yet! Mainly because I'm not sure whether it's going to be a short-lived distraction – or whether I'll continue to pursue it. Only time will tell – but I'm having so much fun creating and experimenting along the way.

In other news:

I'm reading: Tilda is Visible by Jane Tara. This book has such a unique premise. A woman in her fifties discovers that she can't see her little finger. She is subsequently diagnosed with invisibility, a condition common among women her age! I was so intrigued as to how the author would be able to pull off this idea that I had to talk to her! So I interviewed Jane on episode 591 of my podcast “So you want to be a writer”.

I'm watching: The New Look on Apple+. This series starring Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche, playing Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, is a fascinating account of what they did to survive during the Nazi occupation of France during the war.

I'm so happy that: Cadence (below) has been purchased by a collector who nabbed it the day it became available online!
